Night had fallen when we reached Luxor, the temple was wonderfully illuminated. It must have looked princely when both obelisks stood in front of the pylon! One obelisk is missing, it was taken away and set where it now stands: Place de la Concorde in Paris. The lights make this colossus ghostly but also ethereal, virtually weightless, as if the statue seems to say, "I know a secret."
